HACKING HACKATHONS

August 2 - 3

HACKING THE PROCESS

The event will bring together Sana hackathon alumni from around the globe to share their experiences and lessons learned, and work with education experts to maximize the learning from these events.

WHAT

Sana has developed a model of organizing mobile health hackathon events with the goal of encouraging increased collaboration between engineers and medical professionals and leveraging the growing prevalence of cellphones to provide health solutions in resource limited settings.

WHY

Beyond the impact hackathons have through the solutions they generate, they provide authentic learning experiences that promote content mastery, development of technical and thinking skills, and creation of supportive professional and social networks, and that engage and empower individuals and groups to take action.

HOW

Little formal research has been done on the types and mechanisms of learning during hackathons, or how these are impacted by the design and execution of these events. To that end, Sana, MIT Hacking Medicine and the MIT Teaching Systems Lab have partnered to organize “Hacking Hackathons”
